We are looking for a Graduate Coastal Engineer or Scientist in New Zealand to support our Americas-Pacific team with technical execution of our growing project portfolio. Responsibilities and challenges
DHI is seeking a motivated and dedicated Graduate Coastal Engineer or Scientist to execute and contribute to marine, ports, estuarine and coastal projects within New Zealand, Pacific, the Americas and globally. You will join our broader Americas-Pacific team, where we offer a diverse client base for you to expand your career, with work in ports, offshore wind, energy, estuarine and coastal zone management, nature-based solutions, shoreline resiliency and beach morphology. The main responsibilities and challenges in the job are:
- Numerical modelling of coastal processes including hydrodynamics, waves, sediment transport processes and water quality.
- Provide technical support on complex and technically challenging projects that are multidisciplinary in nature.
- Preparation of technical documentation, reports, and presentation materials.
- Support on business development activities within New Zealand to assist with the growth of DHI in the region.
- Support the preparation of technical proposals for existing and/or new DHI clients and accounts.
- Attend and present at conferences and workshops.
Qualifications and personal skills
We are looking for a new colleague with the following technical qualifications:
- A bachelor or postgraduate degree in coastal engineering or science from an accredited university.
- Up to 3 years of experience in implementing coastal and oceanographic modelling studies.
- Applicants should have a record of professional experience demonstrating technical report writing, project and technical engineering.
- Strong academic knowledge in one or more of: coastal, estuarine science, harbour engineering, metocean modelling and / or hydrodynamics.
- Demonstrated experience with coastal and marine models such as: MIKE21, MIKE3, Delft3D, SWAN, XBEACH, etc.
- Strong data analysis skills including the application of Python, MATLAB, etc.
The following personal and professional skills are considered an asset:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to conduct effective client/stakeholder presentations and written report preparation.
- Ability to apply innovative and sound technical solutions to problems and to do so within project deadlines.
- Excellent internal and external networking skills facilitating close collaboration with specialists across the DHI Group.
- Ability to work autonomously, Self-motivated, and highly technically competent.
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong focus on problem solving and client solutions.
Additional qualifications include:
- New Zealand citizen or pre-authorized to work in New Zealand. Those not qualifying for this mandatory requirement will not be contacted.
- Valid passport or ability to readily obtain one.
- English – Excellent spoken and written capabilities
- Willingness / ability to travel up to 15% of the time to DHI offices and job sites throughout New Zealand, Australia, the Americas and globally.
